Jo Sutherst
Jo is a mature part-time distance PhD student based in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, UK. The purpose of her research is to investigate the selfie process as a method for identity creation and maintenance, providing new ways to think about selfies in terms of understanding the self-representation of our images in online spaces. As a professional photographer and former secondary school teacher in Design and Technology, Jo decided in 2019 to undertake her PhD and extend her MA Photography research “Fractured Identities” which used performance, self-portraiture, a series of often comical props, and cosmetics to explore the world of the media generated selfie.
You can follow Jo on Twitter @JoSutherst and hear more about her research on Instagram @selfiephd and at https://www.selfiephd.com/.
