Making the most of conferences

Conferences are events at which academics share their research and find out about current research topics in their field. ‘Delegates’ is a term you will probably come across. It refers to all attendees of a conference, not just the speakers. This online course will give you a complete guide to academic conferences from their purpose to preparation, presenting and networking.

Beth Mills is a PhD English Studies researcher, funded by the South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership. She has presented at several conferences, including the Victorian Popular Fictions Association Annual Conference (University of Greenwich – online, 2020), Fraud and Forgery in Literature of the Long Nineteenth Century (Aarhus University, 2018), Criminal Heritage: Crime, Fiction, and History (Leeds Beckett University, 2017), and the British Society for Literature and Science Winter Symposium (University of Exeter, 2016). She assisted at the British Association for Victorian Studies Annual Conference at the University of Exeter in 2018. She is also a facilitator of the online Shut Up and Write sessions for Postgraduate Researchers.
