Researcher Development

Welcome to this website from the University of Exeter Doctoral College. Over the past few years we have worked closely with our postgraduate researcher community to develop a suite of online resources to support their training and development. These resources, made by PGRs for PGRs, are now available as an open access resource to support the training and development of PGRs across the UK.

The resources on this website are separated in to the strands of our Researcher Development Programme:

  • Essentials
  • Careers
  • Data
  • Sharing your research
  • Writing

In each of these strands you will find resources on a wide range of topics such as working with your supervisors, career management, data analysis, giving conference presentations and writing your thesis.

This website is designed to enable you the navigate different resources according to your training and development needs. You can work through topics as a ‘course’, working through each section chronologically to cover all facets of a topic such as Designing research posters. Alternatively, if you have a specific training need you can navigate straight to resources that address that need – for example Structuring your thesis.

Not sure where to start? Why not look at our Planning your development pages for some guidance on how to plan your personal and professional development.

All of our resources have been developed with accessibility in mind, with resources available in multiple media and formats. If you require a resource in a different format, please do not hesitate to contact us on researcherdevelopment@exeter.ac.uk.
